EngineeringFull timeMelbourne/Sydney

Founding engineer.

The Levercon story so far.

We started Levercon because we could see a gap between what AI could do for investment firms and what they were actually using it for. We embedded ourselves inside these firms to understand their work and find the problems worth solving.

Portfolio monitoring stood out quickly. Private lenders, including corporate credit, venture debt and revenue-based financing funds, spend huge amounts of time collecting borrower reports, working through financials and checking loan covenants. Much of that work is manual and repeated every month.

Our product automates that monitoring cycle, from collecting borrower reporting and mapping financial data to testing covenants and preparing monitoring packs. It works with a fund's existing tools and processes, giving analysts more time to investigate risks and make credit decisions. Users mostly work with it through MCP, and it also has a platform for the audit trail and data visualisations.

Each cycle builds a shared record of borrower performance, with an audit trail linking figures, calculations and decisions to their sources. Credit teams can verify the work, track changes over time and investigate emerging risks across the portfolio. Approvals keep them in control. We learned early that AI only gets adopted if people can trust it.

An early version is already being used by a paying design partner. It has reduced their monitoring cycle from roughly a day to about two hours per loan. Across their 30 loans, that's around 23 working days of analyst time saved every month.

We're now talking to more design partners to extend the product across more complex portfolios and workflows.

Who you'll be building with.

We're Cara and Jake, second-time founders. We previously built the health and wellness app Steppen, which raised $2m and grew to around 450k users before being sold to a US-listed company in 2023.

After that, Cara joined Slice to lead product as the business grew to hundreds of thousands of customers and millions in revenue. Jake built and led Everlab's growth team, taking revenue from zero to over $50m ARR. We've come back together to build Levercon, and we're looking for a founding engineer to join us.

We're backed by Airtree and are also partly bootstrapping the business. We continue to consult broadly for investment firms on AI work where we see a clear return on investment. Alongside funding the business, that work helps us bring firms on as portfolio monitoring customers and identify other problems worth solving.

What you'll own.

You'll work directly with both of us and own the engineering that takes our early MVP into a product funds can rely on every day. You'll help set the architecture and technical direction, from understanding a customer's problem through to shipping the product and fixing it when it breaks.

The technical challenges include

  • Turning messy financials and loan documents into reliable data, with every number traceable to its source and conclusions supported by documented evidence.
  • Building the platform that runs our agents and stores their inputs, outputs and history, so customers can track each run and inspect what happened.
  • Creating dashboards and visualisations that help credit teams see changes across a portfolio and investigate the detail.
  • Building feedback loops and evaluations so corrections improve future runs, and we can measure whether an agent is getting better.
  • Using the information collected over time to identify trends and flag emerging risks across loans and portfolios.
  • Making our agents accessible through the tools customers already use, including Copilot, Claude and ChatGPT.

You'll sit in on sales calls and work directly with credit teams. Understanding where they lose time and what makes them trust an output is a critical part of the job.

Technical must-haves.

Our current stack is TypeScript (Effect), Postgres and AWS.

  • You can build and ship a complete product across the frontend, backend and database. You have work you can show us and can explain the decisions behind it.
  • You can turn an ambiguous problem into working software without needing a detailed spec.
  • You're comfortable building with AI models and APIs, testing their outputs and handling failures.
  • You use AI tools in your development workflow and can judge the code they produce. You take responsibility for security, testing and reliability when you ship.

How you work.

You might be early in your career and already building well beyond what your experience suggests.

  • You're hungry and want to work really hard. You move quickly, stay focused and follow through when the work gets difficult.
  • You're extremely curious and learn fast. When you don't know how something works, you go and figure it out.
  • You're proactive, with high agency and an extremely safe pair of hands. You spot problems, take responsibility and flag issues early.
  • You have taste. You care about the customer experience, notice the details and appreciate the impact of a high-quality product and brand.
  • You're someone people enjoy working with. You take feedback well, challenge ideas thoughtfully and care about the work and the people beside you.

Who this role isn't for.

This role isn't for you if

  • You need an established engineering team around you or constant support to make progress.
  • You want clear specs and a settled roadmap before you start building.
  • You want to stay in a narrow technical lane or hand responsibility over once the code is shipped.
  • You're not prepared to work with customers, sit in on sales calls and learn how their business works.
  • You're looking for a low-intensity role. We're a small team with a lot to build, and this will take sustained effort and commitment.

What we're offering.

A competitive salary with room to grow quickly, generous equity or profit share, and real ownership of the product and technical decisions from day one. You'll work closely with two founders who've built and sold a business together, with the opportunity to take on greater responsibility as Levercon grows.
